About CARGO KITE
CargoKite was born out of a deep passion for kitesurfing and a fascination with the incredible forces that a kite can generate. As a dedicated kitesurfer for over 20 years and an engineer by trade, I’ve always been captivated by the potential of harnessing kite power.
With recent breakthroughs in control engineering and the growing use of kites as a retrofit for ships, I recognized a technological tipping point that could give rise to an entirely new class of ships—ones that are more sustainable, efficient, and innovative. This vision became the foundation for CargoKite.
The concept
CargoKite is a maritime hard-tech company based in Munich, Germany, founded in 2022 with a mission to revolutionize commercial shipping by making it both sustainable and economically viable.
The concept of CargoKite was born at the Technical University of Munich, where Marcus Bischoff, inspired by airborne wind energy technology, dedicated his academic research to proving the technical feasibility of combining kites with actively controlled hydrofoils. This innovative approach is the foundation of CargoKite’s vision.

Micro Ships offer an entirely emission-free solution for overseas transport while aligning with the needs of modern supply chains: fast delivery, just-in-time capabilities, full transparency, and, most importantly, significant cost savings.
CargoKite has already demonstrated its potential with a successful Proof of Concept. A 9-meter catamaran, equipped with our kite system and proprietary hydrofoils, was tested in the French Atlantic Ocean. The 1.5-ton vessel successfully demonstrated its ability to sail upwind, showcasing the viability of our technology and its potential to disrupt the shipping industry.
